Summer 2019 Newsletter

Welcome and Congratulations to new Zoning Administrator Larry Curtiss.  Thank you for your willingness to serve!

RENTAL HOUSING ORDINANCE

The Rental Housing Ordinance has been updated along with the Application to License Rental Dwelling and the Rental Dwelling Permit forms.  A Consent for the Release of Information form has been added to assist landlords with obtaining utility billing information from PUC on their rental properties.  Please visit our website to access all of these documents or contact City Hall.  If you own a rental property in the City and do not have a current permit, please contact the LAPRAIRIE CITY CLERK AT 218-326-8898.

TIPS FOR PROTECTING OUR WATERS

-Sweep driveways, sidewalks and porches and discard waste into garbage can.  Remember to pick up pet waste and dispose of in garbage can.

-Clean house screens, lawn furniture and cars on your lawn to prevent sediment or chemical runoff into the storm water system.

-Re-establish grass to prevent erosion and use non-phosphorous fertilizers to diminish effect of chemicals leading to the catch basins.

-Rake up leaves and excess grass and transfer clippings to the community compost/brush pile.  Do not blow grass clippings into the street.

-Check to ensure downspouts are draining to established turf for proper filtration.  Or better yet build a rain barrel to reuse storm water for watering gardens, plants and trees.

POSITION VACANCIES

-Planning and Zoning Committee meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:00 pm.  Committee members are paid $25 per meeting.

-Park and Rec Committee meets quarterly and as necessary to oversee the park grounds and recreation programs/activities.

-GreenStep Committee meets quarterly and monitors goals to follow the GreenStep Program.
